Council taxpayers, residents, and environmental donors have already invested in CAGNE’s award-winning legal team and a team of qualified experts, to oppose a new runway at Gatwick Airport through the planning process of a Development Consent Order (DCO).
Initiating this robust action from the outset has put Gatwick’s team under pressure like never before, thanks to your funding.
The Secretary of State for Transport (SoS) has now been notified twice by the legal team that, if the runway is approved, we have strong grounds to serve legal action through a judicial review (JR), so establishing intent.
(You may not know that our CAGNE legal team is also responsible for the landmark Finch ruling concerning the on-going use of fossil fuel and subsequent accountability of emissions).
At the outset, CAGNE invited all noise and environmental groups to work together under one banner, to concentrate our efforts more effectively. CPRE Sussex and Kent joined with us (with Surrey supporting).
However, the noise group GACC removed CAGNE from its own initiative and is now seeking to launch its own last-minute legal case in October, with no expertise. CAGNE has endeavoured to meet with this noise group to seek a joint way forward, and we continue to do so.
This divisive action is in danger of leading to Gatwick Airport securing a new runway, particularly if you are persuaded to help fund them. We ask you to hold fire, and continue to support your (CAGNE’s) award-winning legal team that you have funded to date, that already knows the flaws in the Gatwick case.
We assure you that CAGNE is independent, conforms to its constitution, is not linked to any political party (so works for all and on behalf the planet), and won’t do deals or move noise from one area over another.
