Time is Ticking 2022 – a 2nd series of four FREE online talks to coincide with COP27.
As aviation continues to ignore the impact it has on the planet, residents, and local environment, over 200 people signed up to the events. Time is Ticking for us all, as Gatwick Airport seeks to grow and rebuild the emergency runway as a 2nd runway.

NOISE: THE CINDERELLA POLLUTANT AND ITS FORGOTTEN VICTIMS
Noise affects more people in their day-to-day lives than probably any other pollutant, yet it is downplayed by many in authority who dismiss it as no more than a local issue. We looked at the health and quality-of-life implications of noise. We considered why the authorities get away with side-lining such an important pollutant but also explore ways in which communities can make noise an issue.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER ON SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT, ENVIRONMENT AND AIR QUALITY
Taking Baroness Jenny Jones’ place was Zack Polanski, a member of the London Assembly and Chair of London’s Environment Committee. The Clean Air Bill would ensure that people could challenge any expansion of airports that led to an increase in air pollution, such as the ultra-fine particulates associated with aviation, that can infiltrate their way into people’s internal organs. Their view is that airports wishing to expand must meet the strict standards that they say are possible with new technologies, before they are allowed to expand. The issues of air pollution and the climate emergency are linked, as the solution to one is often a solution to the other.

Ex-pilots, air traffic control, and aviation engineer speak about the future of aviation and how it is impacting the planet now and how attitudes have to change to ensure jobs for the future.
Each event lasted one hour and offered a chance to participate with a Q&A session.
